Merri Health Enterprise Agreement

It was a tough fight where the Victorian Industrial Association resisted every inch of the way. As one Merri Health occupational therapist from the rally put it: „The business negotiation process makes us a good deal for our employers.“ The candidates of the Victorian Socialists, Steve Jolly and Sue Bull, addressed the subject, pointing to the risk of a „secret privatization“. Jolly found that municipal health centers serve the most vulnerable and disadvantaged in the community and are essential to the lives of working-class workers. Health care workers are looking for pay equity with their hospital counterparts, job security and a better career structure. But they also have serious concerns about the future of the sector. As Craig McGregor pointed out, there was not a single dollar in this year`s state budget for the health of its allies, after years of neglect by the coalition government and the lab. Merri Health is one of 29 such centres in Victoria. They offer a wide range of health services, including physiotherapy, occupational therapy and mental health programs. For two long years, members of the Victorian Allied Health Professionals Association (VAHPA) have been fighting for a new company agreement. At Merri Health, we strive to enrich different communities by providing quality healthcare and support services.

As part of a career at Merri, you contribute to a culture that influences change for our clients and the wider community. We are committed to promoting the talents and skills of our employees because we know that their skills are the key to our success. The song resounded on June 29 at a vibrant gathering of allied health workers and supporters of Merri Health, a municipal health centre in Melbourne`s north interior. VAHPA Secretary Craig McGregor also denounced corporate negotiations as an „unfair and unjust system.“ Trade union action is necessary to meet workers` demands, he said, but it took a year to gain the right to take protected measures. Since then, seven of the 29 centres have taken measures, including wearing campaign T-shirts at work, attending team meetings, not excluding tasks outside of position descriptions, and not recording or covering statistics. Trade union action has reached agreement on a number of key points. But the workers are also demanding compensation for not receiving a pay raise for two years and they want to put an end to a management initiative to hire contractors at lower wages and conditions. „If the health of the community is under attack, what do we do?“ The opportunity arose to join Merri Health`s very strong and strong management team, with the previous incumbent of the office playing the role of CEO. This is a permanent full-time job at our head office in Cobourg.
